CA001 - Shadow cast by the window above the South door of Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders. The Abbey grounds house a small memorial stone, under which is buried a casket containing the heart of Robert the First ('The Bruce'), King of Scots.

CA008 - Sweetheart Abbey is near Dumfries in Southern Scotland. The flowers on the left are on the tomb of Lady Devorgilla. She was the wife of John Balliol, stabbed by Robert Bruce (the future Robert I, King of Scots), who built the Abbey in his memory and is buried cradling his heart.

The function of these circles is still not fully understood, but as it was possibly religious or ritual it was felt appropriate to include them in this particular gallery. This scene, at sunset, would not have looked so different in Neolithic times.
